Dhaulagiri

The Dhaulagiri region is located in western Nepal and is dominated by Mount Dhaulagiri I (8,167m), the seventh-highest peak in the world. The name “Dhaulagiri” translates to “White Mountain”, reflecting its towering snow-clad summit that looms over the surrounding valleys. This region is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, including deep gorges, high alpine meadows, lush forests, and glacial rivers. The area is less frequented by trekkers compared to the Everest or Annapurna regions, making it a haven for those seeking off-the-beaten-path adventures. Trekkers are treated to stunning panoramic views of the Dhaulagiri massif, as well as neighboring giants like Annapurna I, Nilgiri, and Tukuche. The trails pass through traditional villages inhabited by Thakali and Gurung communities, offering rich cultural experiences alongside natural beauty. The Dhaulagiri region is also home to the famous Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek, one of Nepal’s most challenging high-altitude trekking routes, which includes crossing high passes like French Pass (5,360m) and traversing glacial moraines, alpine ridges, and rugged terrains. The trek provides a perfect combination of adventure, cultural immersion, and breathtaking Himalayan scenery.
