Trek Overview

What is the EBC + Lobuche East Trek?

The EBC + Lobuche East Trek combines the classic Everest Base Camp route with the summit of Lobuche East (6,119m), one of the Khumbu's most rewarding trekking peaks and a natural extension of the EBC itinerary since its base camp sits just above Lobuche village on the main trail. AltiPro's 18-day itinerary follows the classic Everest Base Camp route from Lukla through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Dingboche to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 metres, then climbs to Lobuche High Camp and the summit itself. Lobuche East's narrow, exposed summit ridge delivers one of the most striking close-range panoramas in the Khumbu, with Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, and Ama Dablam all visible from the final ridge.

Fully guided by an experienced high-altitude guide with Lobuche East technical expertise, supported by Sherpa assistants and a personal porter for each trekker. All Sagarmatha National Park and Lobuche climbing permits, teahouse and high camp accommodation and meals, and Lukla flights included. Maximum 12 participants. Rated Difficult — requires strong altitude tolerance plus crampon, ice axe, and fixed-rope technique on the summit ridge.

About the Route

Everest Base Camp + Lobuche East — The Classic Khumbu Peak Combination

The Everest Base Camp route is the most celebrated high-altitude corridor in the world, climbing through the heart of the Khumbu Sherpa homeland from Lukla (2,840m) through Namche Bazaar, past Tengboche Monastery with its direct view of Ama Dablam and the Everest group, through the increasingly stark terrain of Dingboche to the rubble and ice of Khumbu Glacier at Everest Base Camp (5,364m). The summit pyramid of Everest is visible above the West Ridge from base camp.

Lobuche East (6,119m) rises directly above Lobuche village, making it the most logically integrated trekking peak on the EBC route — no separate valley detour is required. Its final summit ridge is narrow and exposed, climbing along a knife-edge snow arête to a small summit platform with an unobstructed panorama of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam at close range.

Route Highlights

EBC + Lobuche East Trek — 18-Day Route Overview

The route follows the classic EBC approach from Lukla to Everest Base Camp, then climbs directly from Lobuche village to High Camp and the 6,119m summit.

1

Days 1–3: Kathmandu → Lukla (2,840m) → Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

Lukla flight from Kathmandu then the classic Khumbu approach through Phakding and the Hillary Suspension Bridge to Namche — the trading hub of the Khumbu, with a rest day including a high hike to the Everest View Hotel.

2

Days 4–7: Namche → Tengboche → Dingboche (4,410m)

Tengboche Monastery delivers the iconic direct view of Ama Dablam and the Everest group. A rest day at Dingboche with a high hike to 4,900m is the critical acclimatisation stage before the upper Khumbu.

3

Days 8–10: Dingboche → Lobuche (4,940m) → Gorak Shep → Everest Base Camp (5,364m)

The terrain above Dingboche becomes increasingly stark — moraine and glacial rubble beneath the towering west faces of Nuptse and Lhotse. Everest Base Camp sits at 5,364m with the Khumbu Icefall immediately above and Everest's summit pyramid visible from the camp.

4

Days 11–14: Kala Patthar (5,545m) → Lobuche High Camp (5,600m)

Optional sunrise hike to Kala Patthar for the most famous Everest viewpoint. The route then returns to Lobuche village and climbs to High Camp for acclimatisation and technical preparation before summit day.

5

Day 15: Lobuche East Summit (6,119m)

A 6 to 8 hour push from High Camp to the summit — fixed ropes, crampons, and ice axe technique on the exposed final ridge, with the complete Everest-Nuptse-Lhotse panorama as the reward. Return to High Camp, then descend to Lobuche village.

6

Days 16–18: Descent — Lobuche → Namche → Lukla → Kathmandu

Rapid descent through the valley trail back to Lukla for the return flight to Kathmandu, completing the 18-day circuit from the Khumbu's lowest airstrip to its highest trekking peak summit.

Difficulty

How Difficult is the EBC + Lobuche East Trek?

The EBC + Lobuche East Trek is rated Difficult. The Everest Base Camp section demands strong altitude tolerance at 5,364m. The Lobuche East summit adds a serious technical element — fixed ropes, crampons, and ice axe use on a narrow, exposed summit ridge, considered more technically demanding underfoot than many other Khumbu trekking peaks. Prior experience above 5,000m is strongly recommended. No technical climbing qualification is required.
