EBC + Island Peak Trek & Climb
Trek to Everest Base Camp then climb Island Peak (6,189 m) — the Khumbu's definitive two-summit adventure.
Trek Overview
What is the EBC + Island Peak Trek?
The EBC + Island Peak Trek combines the world's most famous high-altitude trekking route with the summit of Island Peak (Imja Tse) at 6,189 metres — one of Nepal's premier trekking peaks and the most climbed summit above 6,000m in the Khumbu. AltiPro's 18-day itinerary follows the classic Everest Base Camp route from Lukla through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 metres, then extends south to Island Peak Base Camp and the summit itself. Island Peak rises from the glaciers of the Chhukung valley with a dramatic snow and ice headwall delivering an unobstructed panorama of Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,485m), Ama Dablam (6,812m), and the Everest massif at close range.
Fully guided by an experienced high-altitude guide with Island Peak technical expertise, supported by Sherpa assistants and a personal porter for each trekker. All Sagarmatha National Park and Island Peak climbing permits, teahouse and base camp accommodation and meals, and Lukla flights included. Maximum 12 participants. Rated Difficult — requires strong altitude tolerance plus basic crampon and ice axe technique on the summit headwall.
Everest Base Camp + Island Peak — The Ultimate Khumbu Expedition
The Everest Base Camp route is the most celebrated high-altitude corridor in the world, climbing through the heart of the Khumbu Sherpa homeland from Lukla (2,840m) through Namche Bazaar, past Tengboche Monastery with its direct view of Ama Dablam and the Everest group, through the increasingly stark terrain of Dingboche and Lobuche to the rubble and ice of Khumbu Glacier at Everest Base Camp (5,364m). The summit pyramid of Everest is visible above the West Ridge from base camp.
Island Peak (Imja Tse, 6,189m) stands separate from the main Himalayan chain in the Chhukung valley. Its west face rises from the Island Peak glacier in a dramatic snow and ice headwall. The summit delivers direct sightlines to the south faces of Lhotse, Makalu, and the Kangshung face of Everest — views that few climbers at any level achieve.

EBC + Island Peak Trek — 18-Day Route Overview
The route follows the classic EBC approach from Lukla to Everest Base Camp, then branches south through Chhukung to Island Peak Base Camp and the 6,189m summit.
Days 1–3: Kathmandu → Lukla (2,840m) → Namche Bazaar (3,440m)
Lukla flight from Kathmandu then the classic Khumbu approach through Phakding and the Hillary Suspension Bridge to Namche — the trading hub of the Khumbu, with a rest day including a high hike to the Everest View Hotel.
Days 4–7: Namche → Tengboche → Dingboche (4,410m)
Tengboche Monastery delivers the iconic direct view of Ama Dablam and the Everest group. A rest day at Dingboche with a high hike to 4,900m is the critical acclimatisation stage before the upper Khumbu.
Days 8–10: Dingboche → Lobuche → Gorak Shep → Everest Base Camp (5,364m)
The terrain above Lobuche becomes increasingly stark — moraine and glacial rubble beneath the towering west faces of Nuptse and Lhotse. Everest Base Camp sits at 5,364m with the Khumbu Icefall immediately above and Everest's summit pyramid visible from the camp.
Days 11–14: Kala Patthar (5,545m) → Chhukung → Island Peak BC (5,100m)
Optional sunrise hike to Kala Patthar for the most famous Everest viewpoint. The route then branches south to Chhukung and Island Peak Base Camp (5,100m) for acclimatisation and technical preparation before summit day.
Day 15: Island Peak Summit (6,189m)
A 5 to 7 hour push from base camp to the summit — crampons and fixed ropes on the headwall, with the complete Lhotse-Makalu-Everest panorama as the reward. Return to base camp, then descend to Chhukung.
Days 16–18: Descent — Chhukung → Namche → Lukla → Kathmandu
Rapid descent through the valley trail back to Lukla for the return flight to Kathmandu, completing the 18-day circuit from the Khumbu's lowest airstrip to its highest trekking peak summit.
How Difficult is the EBC + Island Peak Trek?
The EBC + Island Peak Trek is rated Difficult. The Everest Base Camp section demands strong altitude tolerance at 5,364m. The Island Peak summit adds a technical element — fixed ropes, crampons, and ice axe use on the summit headwall — making this the most demanding trekking itinerary AltiPro offers below 8,000m. Prior experience above 5,000m is strongly recommended. No technical climbing qualification is required.
Best Season for the EBC + Island Peak Trek
Spring (April–May): The primary season — stable Himalayan weather windows align with both the Everest climbing season and Island Peak summit conditions. The best summit success rates.
Autumn (October–November): The clearest post-monsoon months with outstanding Khumbu visibility. October and November are excellent for both EBC and the Island Peak summit.
