Trek Overview

What is the Langtang + Yala Peak Trek?

The Langtang + Yala Peak Trek is one of Nepal's finest Himalayan adventures, combining the cultural richness of the Langtang Valley with the excitement of climbing Yala Peak (5,520m). Located just north of Kathmandu near the Tibetan border, this 14-day journey follows ancient Tamang villages, lush rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, and glacial valleys before reaching the summit of Yala Peak — a non-technical trekking peak offering spectacular panoramic views of Shishapangma (8,027m), Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Gangchempo, and the surrounding Himalayan ranges.

The trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the gateway to Langtang National Park. Following the Langtang Khola, the trail ascends through Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa, where trekkers spend time acclimatising before making the ascent to Yala Peak Base Camp and eventually the summit. The climb requires no previous mountaineering experience, making it one of Nepal's most accessible trekking peaks for adventurous hikers seeking their first Himalayan summit.

AltiPro's Langtang + Yala Peak Trek is a fully guided 14-day itinerary including all accommodation, meals during the trek, experienced English-speaking climbing guides, climbing permits, Langtang National Park permits, climbing equipment for summit day, and Kathmandu transfers. Maximum 10 trekkers per group.

The trek is rated Moderate to Challenging due to the high altitude and summit day, but no technical climbing experience is required. Good physical fitness and several months of preparation are recommended.

About the Langtang + Yala Peak Trek

About the Langtang + Yala Peak Trek — Nepal's Best Introductory Himalayan Peak

The Langtang Valley is renowned for its breathtaking alpine scenery, welcoming Tamang communities, and dramatic glacier landscapes. The route follows the Langtang River through dense bamboo and rhododendron forests inhabited by red pandas, Himalayan black bears, and diverse birdlife before emerging into wide yak pastures surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks.

Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m), one of Nepal's oldest Buddhist monasteries, serves as the acclimatisation hub before the summit push. From here, the trail leads towards Yala Peak Base Camp before ascending snow slopes and rocky ridges to the summit at 5,520 metres.

Unlike many Himalayan climbing expeditions, Yala Peak requires no ropes on normal conditions for experienced guides to lead clients safely. The reward is one of Nepal's finest summit panoramas, including an unrivalled view of Shishapangma — the only 8,000-metre mountain located entirely within Tibet.
