Trek Overview
What is the Langtang Valley Trek?
The Langtang Valley Trek is one of Nepal's most accessible high-altitude treks, starting from the outskirts of Kathmandu and heading into the deep glacial valley of the Langtang Khola beneath the summits of Langtang Lirung (7,227m), Langtang II, and Naya Kanga. AltiPro's 10-day itinerary heads north from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, then treks up the Langtang River through dense forest and small Tamang villages to Langtang village and the monastery settlement of Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870 metres. Views from Kyanjin face directly onto the huge south face of Langtang Lirung and the glaciers flowing from it. Side hikes to the Tsergo Ri viewpoint and the Kyanjin glacier are highlights of the upper valley days.
The Langtang Valley is Nepal's nearest high Himalayan valley to Kathmandu — just a few hours' drive — but far less visited than the Everest and Annapurna regions. AltiPro's trek is fully guided with an experienced leader, personal porter for each trekker, all teahouse accommodation and meals on trek, Langtang National Park permits and TIMS card, and transport between Kathmandu and Syabrubesi. Maximum 12 trekkers per group. Rated Easy — suitable for first-time Himalayan trekkers with good general fitness.
About the Langtang Valley
The Langtang Valley runs along the Nepal-Tibet border, enclosed by the Langtang and Jugal Himal ranges to the north and the Ganesh Himal group to the west. Langtang Lirung (7,227m) is the dominant peak — its massive south face is visible from the valley floor throughout the upper trek. The Kyanjin Glacier sits at the head of the valley, and the high viewpoints above Kyanjin deliver panoramic views across to Dorje Lakpa and the peaks of the Tibetan border range.
The valley culture is distinctly Tibetan in character. The Tamang people maintain yak herding, cheese production at the Kyanjin creamery, and Buddhist practices at the Kyanjin Gompa. The Langtang valley was significantly affected by the 2015 earthquake, and the rebuilt community at Langtang village has become one of the most striking examples of post-disaster renewal in Nepal.

Every trekker has a dedicated personal porter. AltiPro maintains above-market wage standards, insurance, and proper equipment for all porters throughout the 10-day route.
Small Group Size
Maximum 12 trekkers per departure for personalised guiding and flexible pacing — keeping the trek personal on one of Nepal's most culturally rich valley routes.
Complete Logistics
All Langtang National Park permits and TIMS cards, and full transport from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and return — completely handled by AltiPro.
Uncrowded Valley
The Langtang Valley sees far fewer trekkers than Everest or Annapurna routes, making for a genuinely uncrowded Himalayan experience that still delivers outstanding mountain scenery and cultural depth.
Best First Himalayan Trek
The gentle gradient, moderate altitude, and proximity to Kathmandu make the Langtang Valley Trek one of Nepal's best introductory treks — ideal for first-time Himalayan trekkers with good general fitness.
Langtang Valley Trek — 10-Day Route Overview
The route drives north from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, then climbs through dense forest along the Langtang Khola to Kyanjin Gompa, with optional high hikes to the Tsergo Ri viewpoint.
Days 1–2: Kathmandu → Syabrubesi (1,460m) → Lama Hotel
Drive from Kathmandu north through the Trishuli valley to Syabrubesi, the entry village for the Langtang National Park. Begin trekking through dense rhododendron and oak forest, following the Langtang Khola upstream.
Days 3–5: Lama Hotel → Ghoda Tabela → Langtang Village → Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m)
The valley opens progressively as the trail climbs through the Tamang settlements of Ghoda Tabela and the rebuilt Langtang village before arriving at Kyanjin Gompa, the monastery settlement with direct views onto Langtang Lirung's south face.
Days 6–7: Kyanjin — Tsergo Ri (4,985m) + Glacier Walk
Two days at Kyanjin for acclimatisation and exploration. The Tsergo Ri hike to nearly 5,000 metres delivers exceptional panoramic views across Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and the Tibetan border peaks. The Kyanjin glacier walk is a spectacular alternative objective.
Days 8–10: Descent — Kyanjin → Langtang → Syabrubesi → Kathmandu
Descent retraces the valley trail to Syabrubesi for the road return to Kathmandu, passing through the same Tamang villages on the way down with a different perspective on the valley's landscapes.
How Difficult is the Langtang Valley Trek?
The Langtang Valley Trek is rated Easy. The route is gradual and non-technical throughout. The main physical demand is the initial steep climb from Syabrubesi and the sustained altitude at Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m). The Tsergo Ri acclimatisation hike (4,985m) is optional and not required to complete the main trek.
Best Season for the Langtang Valley Trek
Spring (March–May): Excellent — rhododendron blooms in the lower forest and warm days in the upper valley. April and May are ideal.
Autumn (October–November): The primary season — clear post-monsoon skies and outstanding views of Langtang Lirung's south face and the border peaks.
